PALM BEACH...

While Florence embraces the coming chill, Palm Beach enjoys a gentle breeze never cold, just fresh enough for effortless looks in soft, neutral palettes.

For cooler evenings, throw on a light jacket; pair it with my new Stripes Bag and jewel sandals for an unmistakably chic finish. Here, fashion knows no seasons only style.

Festive decorations begin to appear everywhere and in few weeks the Worth Avenue Holidays Tree will magically appears, always with Palm Beach’s signature understated elegance.

And as Thanksgiving approaches, the beauty of sharing and the joy of family fill the air. The scent of spices and roasted turkey fills elegant, autumn-inspired settings, infused with gratitude.

FIRENZE...

November nudges us towards cozy settings and festive markets that are already starting to pop up in the city and surroundings! We’re still embracing the best of fall too, however, with plenty of time spent soaking up the atmosphere of parks and gardens as they turn golden and the warmth of bakeries that lovingly display seasonal specialties. 

Those awed by architecture will be fascinated to hear that the long-abandoned site of Sammezzano Castle in Leccio, near Reggello, is finally getting a fresh lease of life as new owners, the Moretti family, begin highly anticipated restoration works on the 19th-century Moorish masterpiece. I can’t wait to see the results!

The latest installation in the courtyard of Palazzo Strozzi has gotten a lot of people talking! Brooklyn-based artist KAWS is behind the work titled The Message that reinterprets Fra Angelico’s Annunciation in a modern key. The 6-meter-tall wooden figures hold smartphones, casting a reflection on contemporary communication. Plenty of passersby are stopping for photos and to admire the giant yet vulnerable work, and it’s a joy to see younger audiences embracing the sculpture that’s on show until January 25.

A woman-centered fest takes place from November 21-23, with the annual L’Eredità delle Donne program featuring an impressive lineup of scientists, politicians, economists, entrepreneurs, activists, writers, artists, environmentalists and more. From fascinating talks, we move to motivated movers, as runners take to the road for the 41st edition of the Estra Firenze Marathon on November 30. The route weaves through the historic center, so make sure to cheer them on if you’re around!

It’s also a great month for music, with the Concerti al Cenacolo series organized by the L’Homme Armé Association seeing a series of performances in striking spaces from November 7-30. Sites like Florence’s Chapter House and the San Salvi Museum open their doors for memorable evenings dedicated to early music masterpieces and more, with compositions by Henry Purcell and Thomas Campion contrasting with those by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

It may feel too early for Christmas festivities (or is it ever too early?!), but the American International League of Florence’s Christmas Bazaar is one of those unmissable annual occasions that we just couldn’t leave out. This year, it’s taking place from November 21-23 at the Ippodromo del Visarno, filling it with all kinds of everything, from items for the house to toys, books, and clothes, with all funds raised going to charity.

Did you know that November 30th has significance in Tuscany? Festa della Toscana is held to remember the reforms strongly supported by Grand Duke Peter Leopold in 1786 that abolished the death penalty and torture. Today, the occasion is marked most years by a historical parade of flag throwers and banners that passes through the city streets in a nod to the dawn of a new era.

And finally, for something sweet (yet not TOO sweet!). I’m always excited to see the castagnaccio reappear in bakeries! The traditional chestnut cake makes its appearance this time of year, with the authentic dish made up of chestnut flour, raisins, pine nuts and a touch of rosemary for a rustic delicacy that’s been part of Tuscan tradition for centuries.
