Florence or Florence?

Florence or Florence?

Dear all,

are we meeting in Florence or in Florence!!

I know I am a bit bias on this matter, can you forgive me? Every place in Italy is worth to visit and discover and yet I find myself super happy to travel back to my Bella Firenze and find something new that I have never experienced or seen before.

Then do not forget...you can still wear white in Florence after Labor day :-)

PALM BEACH AND THE HAMPTONS

Thank you once again for the enjoyable season in the Hamptons, the seasonal Atelier is now closed and it will rest till Memorial Day 2025.

To be fair, September in the Hamptons is very nice. Crowds are back to the city and they leave this magic place to finally rest and lay down before the winter arrives.

In Palm Beach schools started again and slowly houses are reopened after the summer. We will have some more weeks before the season will start again, I have just the time to be in Florence and then in a glimpse I will be back here...many events will be ahead of us!

FIRENZE...

It’s rientro (re-entry) time as people head back to school and work after a month of serene summer slowness. The temperatures start to (thankfully!) ease off, making September a blissful month of warm weather that’s perfect for the packed month of exhibitions and events that welcome us back to the city.

September is a big deal in the arts world as Artigianato e Palazzo celebrates its 30th anniversary from September 13-15, bringing top-caliber artisans to the Corsini Gardens at Palazzo Corsini al Prato, and the 33rd edition of the Florence International Antiques Biennial is held from September 28-October 6, housed on the banks of the Arno at Palazzo Corsini, where the best in ancient, modern and contemporary Italian art will be showcased.

Music fans won’t be disappointed either as the Firenze Jazz Festival fills the city with soulful sounds from September 4-15. Concerts take place all over, with memorable venues like the Limonaia of Villa Strozzi, Piazzale Michelangelo and the terrace of the historic Forte Belvedere, a fortress dating back to the 1590s, bringing us to discover both stunning settings and international artists.

As well as being a wonderful month for the arts, it’s also a great time to embrace the traditions of Florence with two festivals to enjoy this month! The first is Rificolona, a much-loved local tradition that remembers a pilgrimage taken by countryside folk in the mid-seventeenth century to celebrate the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in the Basilica of Santissima Annunziata, selling their wares at the market fair held the next day. In honor of this, you’ll see an unforgettable procession of people carrying lanterns of all shapes and sizes through the streets of the center, before reaching piazza Santissima Annunziata for celebrations.

Then we have the Carro Matto (literally means Crazy Cart!) on the fourth Saturday of September, marking the arrival of the newly produced wine from the Chianti Rufina area. You won’t believe the size of the pair of white oxen that pull the cart, accompanied by a parade in historical costume with drums and flag throwers from piazza del Duomo.

As we make our way towards fall, our recipes start to assume an autumnal taste! It’s one of my favorite seasons in Tuscany, as we stock our kitchens with ingredients like fagioli (beans) and mushrooms, which are at their peak production in Tuscany from mid-August to mid-October. It’s the perfect opportunity for a plate of pappardelle pasta and porcini mushrooms.

Just takes a few garlic cloves, onions, and extra virgin olive oil to create a divine dish! If the temperatures are still too high and you’re feeling like a lighter meal, you can even try a raw mushroom salad (needs to be prepared at least one hour before serving with a suitable variety of mushrooms), made with extra virgin olive oil, salt and lemon juice, and a sprinkle of ground pepper to bring out the flavors. Enjoy!

Let’s step into September in style!

Yours,

Jennifer
