It must have been around early April 2011 when I met Jennifer Tattanelli for the first time.

We were in Florence for a photo shoot and, after a snack with delicious cheese, lovely smelling, unsalted bread and a small glass of red wine, all rigorously from the region, we walked towards the shop where she sells her creations.

“Casini Firenze by Jennifer Tattanelli” is situated in front of Pitti Palace, an imposing building commanding deep respect, which  makes the small houses in front looking like a row of tiny ants lined up one next to the other.

The effect was that the store awning, which is beige, if I’m not wrong, and the entrance door seemed invisible compared with the majestic neighbor and revealed nothing of the world we were about to discover.

The first thing I noticed (which impressed me) was the discreet elegance of the shop, the inviting, warm light and the flower arrangements, all simple yet refined; a sign of good taste and class.

I was curious to see how this would reflect in the clothes and the accessories. It was like returning to a time I thought lost: authentic creativity, sense of color, carefully selected materials chosen with deep experience; skilled craftsmanship  with a touch of youth, modernity and joy of living.

It is ages since I have seen trendy shoes and bags masterly interlaced and reversible jackets made of  leather light as a feather.

Fashionable, very feminine dresses which were not fussy and were astonishingly comfortable at the same time. Among well experienced, friendly sales assistants and international customers, I noticed a young, blond woman dressed in blue and white wearing simple ballerina’s shoes and some understated yet beautiful jewelry with a tailor’s tape measure around her neck.

When I heard her talking I realized that in front of me stood a self assured artist who loved her job  and who was in the middle of an extremely busy life. It was a pleasure observing her advising and suggesting dresses, colors and accessories, always ready to take a measurement and make adjustments here and there, if a shoulder or the length of a sleeve did not satisfy her.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Jennifer does not require women to transform their body to suit her creations; she prefers moulding her fashion around the woman’s body as it is.

A breath of fresh air and an extraordinary experience at the same time: to feel beautiful and desirable without having to correspond at all costs to esthetic standards fixed by others.

This philosophy, together with a noteworthy creativity, make Jennifer’s world definitely a place worth discovering.

ITALIAN VERSION

Eravamo forse intorno ai primi di aprile, quando ho incontrato Jennifer Tattanelli per la prima volta. Ci trovavamo a Firenze per un servizio fotografico  e, dopo un gustoso spuntino in un’enoteca vicina, a base di eccellente formaggio, pane e un piccolo bicchiere di vino, rigorosamente della zona, ci siamo incamminati verso il negozio dove vende le sue creazioni.  Casini Firenze by Jennifer Tattanelli, così si chiama il negozio che si trova di fronte a Palazzo Pitti, un edificio imponente che incute grande rispetto e fa sembrare le piccole costruzioni antistanti come  una fila di minuscole formiche allineate una accanto all’altra.

(..se vuoi puoi anche dire che questa zona conosciuta come “Oltrarno” era la zona dove risiedevano le botteghe artigianali di Firenze…lascio a te la scelta comunque)

L’effetto era che la tenda di colore beige chiaro, se non erro, e la porta d’ingresso stessa apparivano praticamente invisibili, paragonati al maestoso vicino e non lasciavano intuire proprio niente del mondo che si sarebbe aperto appena varcata la soglia.

La prima cosa che mi ha colpito è stata l’eleganza discreta del negozio, le luci calde ed accoglienti e la composizione di fiori, semplice e raffinata allo stesso tempo; segni di gusto e di classe.

Ero curiosa di vedere come queste doti per me grandi si sarebbero riflesse nei vestiti e negli accessori. Mi sembrava di ritornare in un tempo  perduto: creatività autentica, senso del colore, materiale ricercato e scelto con sapienza; artigianato di primissima qualità, con un tocco di giovinezza, modernità e gioia di vivere.

Erano secoli che non avevo più visto scarpe e borse intrecciate ad arte; giacche di pelle leggere come piume e portabili da entrambi i lati; vestiti femminili senza essere esagerati e, meraviglia delle meraviglie… allo stesso tempo comodi!

….se puoi aggiungere poche parole anche sulla collezione uomo, visto che ci sono anche le foto….

Fra assistenti alla vendita ben preparate e gentili e clienti internazionali, ho notato una giovane donna bionda, vestita di blu e di bianco, con semplici ballerine, molti, ma non troppi gioielli, e un metro intorno al collo.

Sentendola parlare, mi sono resa conto di aver di fronte un’artista consapevole del suo valore, sicura di sé, appassionata del suo lavoro, in mezzo ad una vita che corre veloce.

Mi è piaciuto osservarla mentre consigliava le clienti, proponeva determinati colori e abbinamenti, pronta a prendere le misure per ritoccare un modello qua o là, se una spalla o la lunghezza di una manica non la soddisfacevano.

Ho scoperto con sorpresa e piacere che Jennifer non impone alle donne di trasformare il loro corpo per adeguarlo alla sua moda; preferisce creare le sue collezioni intorno al corpo femminile, così com’è.

Una ventata di aria fresca e una straordinaria esperienza allo stesso tempo: sentirsi belle e desiderate senza dover cercare a tutti i costi di corrispondere a canoni estetici decisi da altri.

Questa sua filosofia, insieme ad una notevole creatività, fanno del mondo di Jennifer un luogo tutto da scoprire.
