Summer is gently giving way to autumn arriving on tiptoe, yet impossible to ignore. The air turns crisp, light but unmistakably cooler. Planners reopen, both old and new thoughts begin to find their direction. It’s a month of transition and quiet renewal. The holidays make room for the calm of returning to order, for everyday gestures to fall back into rhythm and for ideas to start taking shape again.

Even our wardrobes face the classic moment of the seasonal shift but that doesn’t mean saying goodbye to the light tones and luminous vibes of summer. There are colors that tell the story of autumn without weighing it down: deep blue and rich bordeaux are the perfect combination. After all, elegance lives in the light. Yes, we’re still making the most of our sun-kissed glow.

HAMPTONS...

Labor Day has just gone..the season here slowly has come to an end, leaving our hearts full of summer memories from sunsets painted in breathtaking hues, to family barbecues on the porches of old wooden houses, while the cool morning air and the scent of coffee would gently draw deer out from a frame of dense trees, where sunlight filtered through… this is my place  where elegance is truly timeless.

Frankly breathe in the ocean air with no rush at all, here September is not an ending, but a softer beginning. A return to ourselves, in one of those rare places where simplicity meets classic charm.

Westhampton Beach has never been so vibrant and alive; I truly enjoyed my time here and yes this year I spent a lot of time in the Atelier having fun with all of you...I promise to keep this tradition for the next season as well.

FIRENZE...

Suitcases are stowed away, and students pop on their backpacks as the "Rientro" (reentry) following the August slowdown is in action. It’s a busy time for the city’s cultural calendar too as museums kickstart the academic year with new exhibitions, and festivals of all sorts soften the return to routines.

Have you had a chance to see the Roman busts lining the Vasari Corridor? The spaces above Ponte Vecchio have been at the center of news for quite a while now, having only recently reopened to the public, but the famous Medici passageway offers even more excitement now that over 50 ancient Roman busts are placed along the corridor, giving you even more reason to visit!

Most important now you can cross Florence quietly walking thru the corridor and at the end you will find me!! The exit is right in front my Florence Atelier in Piazza Pitti.

There are quite a few new art shows in town, but one you definitely won’t want to miss is dedicated to the early Renaissance master Beato Angelico, set to take place at Palazzo Strozzi and the San Marco Museum from September 26 to January 25. Referred to as the “poet of painters,” works by Lorenzo Monaco, Masaccio and Lippo Lippi are shown alongside the friar’s works, as well as sculptures by Lorenzo Ghiberti, Michelozzo and Luca della Robbia. I’m also excited to see the Toulouse Lautrec: A Journey Through Belle Époque Paris exhibition coming to the Innocenti Museum from September 27-February 22. Those iconic posters of café-concerts just immediately draw you in!

The Firenze Jazz Festival brings brilliant beats to the city from September 2-14, with various venues across town getting our feet tapping to music by the likes of Coca Puma, Alfa Mist, and Alabaster DePlume. For something more classical, check out the FFF Fortissimissimo Festival organized by Amici Musica Firenze that features piano, violin and chamber concerts in some truly special spaces in the city from September 19-October 7.

It’s a craft lover’s haven at Palazzo Corsini al Prato and its magnificent gardens from September 12-14 as Artigianato e Palazzo brings some of the best in the business for a weekend of high-quality crafts. A range of installations, exhibitions and multi-themed events make it an occasion to look forward to, with plenty of food, fabrics and furniture added into the mix.

September is also an interesting month for centuries-old traditions, with a few to mark this month. The Rificolona Festival is celebrated on September 7, a day that sees lantern-led processions through the streets of the city center. The tradition dates to the mid-17th-century, when farmers made their way to piazza Santissima Annunziata to sell their wares at the market fair. There’s also the Carro Matto, an equally intriguing custom that sees a “crazy cart” packed with wine drawn by two white oxen weave its way through the center, with the historical parade taking place on September 27.

A little tip: on September 23rd, around 1:00 PM, head to the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella. Thanks to the ancient sundials embedded in the floor, you’ll be able to witness with your own eyes the apparent passage of the sun just one day before the Autumn Equinox.

Last but not least, foraging Porcini is a fall favorite, and plenty of Florentine dishes feature these funghi in September and beyond. An easy-to-make pasta sauce combines fresh porcini mushrooms with garlic cloves, white onion and a sprig of calamint, finished, of course, with extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper and your pasta of choice (I recommend pappardelle, tagliatelle or fettuccine).
