Hello from the peak of Florentine summer!
Temperatures in the Tuscan capital are slated to reach a sweltering 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) from our bird’s-eye view of the Pitti Palace in our Florence atelier, we’ve already noticed a drop in the number of visitors (and sunbathers) in the large surrounding square, which sometimes gets treated as a “concrete beach”.
The August exodus is soon to commence!
We’re finding comfort in no-cook recipes like the Tuscan classic "Panzanella" (try it at home!), fleeting moments of evening breezes, summer meetups with old friends…and AC, lots of it!
Plus, an insider tip for those of you here in town: we got word yesterday that entrance to one of my favorite spots to enjoy shade and serenity, the beautiful and historic Villa Bardini, will be free every Wednesday in August.
(The gardens, panoramic views of the city and exhibitions are well worth braving the sun and taking advantage of this deal!
Did you catch the lunar eclipse few weeks ago? The sky in Florence was a bit hazy, making it hard to capture, but a photo couldn’t quite do justice to the magic, anyway. I got a chance to bask in the so-called Blood Moon from the stunning Grand Cloister of Santa Maria Novella, where a dance performance by the Michael Clark Company had just wrapped up: the dancers wore bright red costumes for the final number in a move that perfectly complemented the celestial event of the year.
Wish you could have experienced it in my "Bella Firenze"? Here’s a borrowed shot of the phenomenon… I can’t decide which is more magical, the moon or Brunelleschi’s masterpiece!
Right now we’re gearing up for a big September, both in the Renaissance city and back in the USA.
Especially in Italy, September is effectively like New Year’s, really—everyone gets a fresh start and many new projects are put into motion!
Our most exciting news for the period? The upcoming opening of our new Madison Avenue Atelier on 1082 between 81st and 82nd street…it’s in the works for the Labor Day week!
You’ll soon find us in the heart of the Upper East Side on none other than Madison Avenue, another dream come true and one more way for you to get the best of #MadeinItaly when in the Big Apple.
What else? Take a look into the new website, is not yet completed...however you can find now the section "Instagram Looks" where you can see and shop directly from your preferite #instalook!
Stay tuned for more news soon…for now, enjoy the rest of your summer.
May it be filled with sun, swimming, and plenty of rest with your nearest and dearest.
